I managed to buy a Yashica Lynx 14e rangefinder camera that was in excellent condition except for the problem of the shutter being stuck which meant as far as the previous owner was concerned made it unusable. I only paid around £25 for the camera including postage.
As I had already read up on the camera I knew it was a common fault and also knew how easy it is to fix. So I ordered batteries needed for the light meter at the same time so it would be working once I fixed the shutter.
To fix the shutter I just had to remove the front of the lens to expose the shutter blades, being careful not to do any damage to the lens. This is done by unscrewing the lens from the outer casing, avoiding damage to the lens glass. Once exposed I just put a drop of lighter fluid onto the blades (you can also use an alcohol solvent) and fired the shutter, then dried the fluid from the blades with a lens cloth and repeated the process till the shutter started to fire every time. Then replaced the lens front again. Since then the camera has worked perfectly and given some excellent photos as a result.
The Lynx 14e is known for its large lens, probably the largest of any 35mm rangefinders, with a maximum aperture at f1.4 and is well sought after when in excellent working order.
